Northern Tigers Senior Men’s Captain Lachlan Lloyd made his 150th First Grade league appearance last weekend in the 1-0 win over Mounties Wanderers FC.
Lachie progressed through the Northern Tigers youth program and made his First Grade debut in 2018. Since making his First Grade debut, he has become a central figure both on and off the field, leading by example and playing a key role in the team’s development.
Technical Director Jason Eagar, who has known Lachlan since his arrival at Northern Tigers, praised the milestone achievement:
”Congratulations to Lachie on achieving the 150 First Grade game milestone, thoroughly deserved. I gave Lachie his First Grade debut in 2018, from day one his performances justified the opportunity he was given at a young age. His loyalty and commitment are a credit to him and he sets a great example for young players now coming into the First Grade environment. It is often said the Tigers culture is strong, players like Lachie is the reason why.”
We sat down with Lachie to reflect on his footballing journey and his thoughts on the 2025 season.
Lachie, where did your football journey begin?
My football journey started in the backyard with my older brothers when I was young. I played my first official games for Lindfield Football Club in the Under 5s.
When did you join the Northern Tigers and how many seasons have you played for the club?
I joined the club in the Under 11s, and this is now my 15th season with the club.
How many years have you been in the Senior Men’s squad for the Northern Tigers?
I made my First Grade debut late in the 2018 season against Bankstown Berries and became a full-time member of the squad in 2019.
Men’s First Grade have had a strong first half of the season, what aspirations do the team have for the season?
We’ve got high aspirations this year. Our main goal is promotion into NPL Men’s – something the club has been working towards for a long time. It would mean so much to finally achieve it. Another big goal was qualifying for the Round of 32 in the Australia Cup for the first time in club history, and to achieve that has been very special.
This year’s squad is tight knit. It’s a great mix of ages, and everyone gets along so well. The competitive nature within the group has really lifted our standards – you’ve got to be at your best to keep your spot, and that’s pushed us forward.
What was the atmosphere like at NTRA for the last Australia Cup match against Hills United and how did the crowd impact the team’s performance?
The atmosphere was incredible. The crowd absolutely played a part in helping us get over the line and make history. Hopefully, we’ll keep seeing that kind of support throughout the rest of the season as we push for NPL1.
The Northern Tigers are in the Round of 32 of the Australia Cup for the first time -how far can the team go, and what kind of draw are you hoping for?
The whole squad is pumped to showcase our talent on the national stage. Ideally, we’d love to draw an A-League team at home – to play against the best, on our turf, with friends and family in the stands, would be unforgettable. That said, the boys wouldn’t mind an interstate away trip either!
What would the completion of the ‘Home of Football’ mean to the Northern Tigers Senior Men’s squad?
It would be massive. Over the past decade, the club has worked so hard to create a professional environment for players to develop both on and off the pitch. Having a dedicated facility like the Home of Football would be the final piece to help the club grow even further.
What characteristics are Northern Tigers teams known for amongst their opponents?
I’d love for our club to be known for our work ethic and that never-give-up attitude. That’s what we pride ourselves on. Personally, I’m far from the most technical player, but I’ve been able to carve out a decent career through hard work and persistence.
You’ve been at the Northern Tigers a long time — what do you like about the club?
It’s a club built around family and friendships, while still pushing hard for success. Some of my closest mates are here, and I really value the relationships I’ve built over the years.
Any final thoughts?
Just that it’s an exciting time to be part of the Northern Tigers. The support from fans, volunteers, coaches, and everyone behind the scenes means a lot to the playing group. Hopefully, there are more special moments to come this season!
