2021 Women’s First Grade players Isabel Gomez and Brianna Edwards have joined Wellington Phoenix for the club’s inaugual A-League Women’s season.
Both players joined Tigers this year after several seasons at Football NSW Institute, with Gomez (a Mount Colah junior) returning to the club after spending three seasons in green and white during her junior years before being selected for Institute.
Gomez featured in central midfield for all 12 NPL NSW games played before the season was abandoned, with Edwards making nine appearances in goals.
The 2021-22 A-League Women’s season will be Edwards’ first on the professional level, while Gomez will be looking to build upon her breakthrough last year with Western Sydney Wanderers, where she made five appearances.
Eight members of the 2021 Women’s First Grade squad are now signed to A-League Women’s clubs, Gomez and Edwards joining Shadeene Evans (Adelaide), Malia Steinmetz (Western Sydney Wanderers), Morgan Aquino (Perth Glory), Ellie Brush (Sydney FC), Lauren Allan (Newcastle Jets) and Aideen Keane (Perth Glory).
